fast food restaurant at the shopping center. a san jose police officer that happened to be on a traffic stop a block away heard the crash and was the first responder out on the scene. the paramedics came out and declared the driver dead on the scene. police think they know who he is but are not releasing his name until they are able to notify the family. they think he is in his late 20s, early 30s. no obvious signs of drinking and driving but they won't be able to rule that out for sure until toxicology tests, not something the coroner would be performing. in the foregrounds, a white van pulling up. we believe that coroner is coming on the scene which means that maybe the scene will be cleared up sooner than initially thought. the eta was around 7:00. with the coroner coming on the skeep, it is quite possible it could be sooner. for more on your morning commute, i'm going to send it over to traffic anchor, mike inouye. mike? >>> as you saw, bob talked about the coroner potentially arriving on scene. that white van we just saw. that may be the issue. let's look at some

the suspects could have been linked to an armed robbery in san jose. here's the intersection where the drive-by shooting happened and police were led on a wild chase through three east bay cities late last night. our cameras caught the chase north through 880. police tried to pull the driver other in hayward for dui and reckless driving. but he sped off through san leandro and oakland. the car spun out of control between 580 between harrison and park and police cars slammed into it to box the car in. officers say people were throwing things out on the roadway. they never found the objects but officers did find weapons inside the vehicle when it finally stopped. >> they pursued the vehicle in oakland where it crossed across the center median. the three occupants were taken into custody from there. >> reporter: police believe those three could be tied to a shooting in hayward early yesterday afternoon. a man was driving with his wife and child at tennyson and kalaroga when he was struck by a bullet and taken to the hospital. he's expected to survive. a hayward police officer tweeted around mid

in san jose. sky 7 was over the scene and police say poseas tossed a loaded handgun after police stopped him. they looked for him for several hours and shut down several streets before calling off that search. >> a 39-year-old woman was struck and kill bid a hit and run driver this morning. investigators say she was walking along southbound 280 near mclaughlin area sometime between 3:15 this morning. a number of drivers stopped to try to help. there is no description of the car or driver responsible. >> do you remember this home that was piled high with junk? all over the front yard? last month a judge gave orders of 30 days to clean it up there is a noticeable difference in what the house looks like in january compared to how it looks now. the debris and tents have been hauled away but there is a tent in the front yard. looks like landscaping is far off. owners say they have not heard from inspectors if the judge determines clean up did not go far enough, contractors will be sent over to finish the work. >> some progress, though. next week u.s. supreme court will hear arguments on same-

in san jose. right now back to you, john and marla. >> we have an update to breaking news from san francisco. christie smith joins us from the bay view district where a swat situation is under way. what are you learning? >> reporter: good morning. the swat situation seems to be ramping up. within the last minute or two more p police officers have arrived in plain clothes and went into the crime scene. you can see them moving under the police tape now. we are hearing that this is a swat situation. started a couple of hours ago. we are on generaljennings and underwood. there is at least one suspect inside a builder here. it started with a pursuit of a robbery suspect, possibly the robbery of a medical marijuana facility that at least two, maybe three are in custody and one possibly more still outstanding. we are hearing that the outstanding suspect or suspects the perimeter keeps getting larger and larger. the perimeter is quite right and more officers are arriving on the scene. we get an update from san francisco police and we'll let you know what they have to say for now. reporting

in san jose have released a sketch of a woman who may have stole a truck yesterday. the suv and the baby have been returned. they described the person of interest as latina and possibly in her late 30s or early 40s. the baby's mother told police she saw an unfamiliar woman in front of her home as she loaded things inside the jeep just before the car and baby disappeared. >>> okay -- oakland police want your help for a possible child predator. the man walked into the front of the home and tried to abduct a 9-year-old girl. the man fled in a silver honda. >>> an 8-year-old girl is recovering tonight after surgeons removed an arrow from her leg. someone shot her during a class field trip to berkeley's lawrence hall of science. campus police think the arrow was shot from the neighborhood just north of the complex. the girl was hit just after 10:00 a.m. while playing outside at a whale replica. >> it was an arrow, it was a regular arrow. not a toy, a regular arrow. it was stuck on her leg. it wasn't poking out one side it was just in and stuck in there. >> reporter: investigators are trying

. tonight final preparations, people from around the country will gather at the hp pavilion in san jose for the funeral of the two fallen santa cruz police officers. streets and freeways will be impacted tomorrow during this emotional event. nbc bay area's damian trujillo joins us this evening from santa cruz. damian? >> reporter: well, raj, they opened the doors at 3:00 this afternoon here at the santa cruz memorial. there's been a steady flow of people ever since. insid inside the chapel are the two officers who gave their lives for their community. they lie with honor inside the memorial, side-by-side. sergeant butch baker and sergeant elizabeth butler. >> i brought some flowers to come and pay my respects to these brilliant officers that went way beyond the line of duty. >> reporter: supporters and strangers lined up for their turn to pay homage to a man and a woman who died wearing their blues protecting the city. >> it's something i don't think we can comprehend. it's a tragedy that should have never happened. >> reporter: sergeant baker and officer butler were questioning jeremy

-involved shooting in unincorporated san jose. ktvu channel 2 reporter janine de la vega is live in san jose with what police are saying about gunfire that followed an overnight chase. good morning, janine. >> reporter: good morning, tori. sheriff's deputies just cleared the scene on jerilyn drive. they've been here for 12 hours investigating. we were just told by a neighbor. they say this is where the suspect in a stolen car was shot, where you see all of this broken glass and just across the street, that's where they say that he crashed his car after he was shot. i don't know if you can see. there's some debris there, still in the street in this residential neighborhood. now, this all took place just before 7:00 last night. san jose police were driving in unmarked cars from the specialized metro team. they spotted the stolen car, tried to spot it. authorities say they did use their lights and siren. the suspect then started to ram into police cars and the parked vehicle. one of the officers got out of his car. investigators say that's when the suspect

large flames shooting from the upper stories of this building and this is on park street on san jose avenue. everybody who lives there was able to make it out safely but because of the size alameda had to fight it from the outside and they took a defensive position and they used latter trucks to get up on to the roof. this was not an easy fire to get under control. >> the challenging parts was that they are old and they have heavy timber and they are broken into many small areas. there is at least a few different areas and they are you have to get to. >> the cause of this fire will be investigated but the division chief he did tell us there is a vacant unit that they will certainly take a closer look at. to give you an idea how big it was, it took all all meet firefighters in fact they had to call in other oakland firefighters to handle the calls. as i mentioned, there were a number of businesses including a clothing store and salon. the fire department does say that a number of these businesses will be suffering smoke and water damage including t
